Cycle...
While one tries to build a base(home, money, a stable life..etc..) it can be very easy to fall into a trap. The trap of the middle class existence. We get paid, pay our bills, go home, prepare for work, eat, sleep and repeat. I know that part of my acting bug comes from not wanting a typical existence. However, I am terrified of going back to lower class status. This fear is paralyzing and perhaps preventing progress in acting. It is something I need to overcome. I am currently preparing for a showcase which I am very excited about. I know I need to do more in order to see more results. I always tell my students that whatever they place their energy into they will reap those results. I should take my own advice.

It has been a few years since I first wrote a blog post and just like I stopped blogging I also fell off the path. I once preached that patience is needed in order succeed as an actor, and surely that is true. However, what one must not lose is sight of one's goals. In the last three years I have worked very hard to build a base, a foundation, where I could stabilize myself. I have been semi successful and hopefully by this summer I will be on very solid ground. I have also managed to land the lead in a show I never thought I would ever be casted in. It is pretty cool how life can manage to reward you if one keeps focus on positive energy and inviting progress in. This is, of course, easier said than done, but trust me it is worth while to do.

I love to act but I suck...
There are many of us out there that just love acting. We feel impassioned by becoming(Trying to become) different characters and living out their lives. However, what if we suck? Instead of successfully becoming the character we are just ourselves pretending to be someone else. That can be the biggest disappointment of ones life. However, the good news is that you have already conquered 50% of the problem. To be a good actor you need passion. Almost anyone can memorize lines and recite them back to you. It is actors that have passion for the craft that can truly master the craft. Ok, but we are back to your number 1 problem which is you think you suck. The first thing you need to get out of your head is this idea of talent. First off can anybody truly give me a concrete definition of the word talent? Ok, let us say that we got a great definition of the word. Talent=A special natural ability. I do not deny that a few people can naturally be connected a character and truthfully live out the characters circumstances. However, I have met few of those people. Instead, I find that "naturally" talented actors have had lessons since they were children and have be able to develop their emotional instrument through those courses. For our purposes let us set aside the word talent. It is my belief that one can teach acting to people if there is a passion there. With this blog I want to help guide actors in becoming better actors. I also want to invite people to take the journey I am on with me. I am an actor above anything else in life. I want to share my successes and my struggles. At the end of the day I want to help people become better at what they love, and hopefully give them tips on how to survive the business. So, you may "suck" however with the techniques that I will outline in this blog I believe you can successfully improve your skills. Before I sign off let me make clear that this blog will not serve as a substitute for acting classes. Instead, this will be a great first place to start, and/or to supplement what you are already learning. Choosing a good acting teacher can be complicated in itself. I will guide you in things to look for. I will try to update this blog everyday. So, please do check back often. Until next time break a leg!
